Esteban Ocon finished third in Monaco, giving Alpine its first podium of the season. For the Frenchman himself, this was the first podium since his victory in Hungary in 2021.
He supported the success of his partner Pierre Gasly, who finished seventh. Alpine achieved their best result of the season with 21 points, beating McLaren for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
Esteban Ocon (3rd): “We did it! The team had a great weekend! From the very beginning we improved the car and never made a mistake. Even the circle where I switched to intermediate tires turned out to be perfect.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on stage. I hope today is the first of many. Yesterday I had enough when I hit the wall – today it was not necessary.
Pierre Gasley (7th): “We had a good weekend – congratulations to the whole team and Esteban on the podium. As for me, I am disappointed and surprised by the team’s decision to pit me for new slicks when I was in third place and it started to rain. Another few laps had to be called again for the intermediate rubber. The result could have been higher, but such situations are part of the sport. We will analyze everything to understand what we could have done better.
I told the team that I can still stay hard on the tyres. We could wait for more rain, so I suggested we stay on track, but I don’t have all the information the team has in the pit lane. We will analyze what we could have done better, but I feel we could have earned more points today.
Most importantly, our form this weekend was much better than at other stages of the season. In the coming weekends I want to compete more often with Ferrari and Mercedes.”
