Fernando Alonso was close to qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen took pole, 0.084 seconds ahead of the Spaniard. Nevertheless, the Aston Martin driver is happy with the starting position and intends to fight for victory.
Fernando Alonso (2nd): “I am satisfied. Of course the pole position means a lot in Monaco, and it’s a shame Max was a little faster today. Nevertheless, a front row position at this circuit means a lot to our team.
The last sector is the weak point of our car on this track. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow in terms of strategy. Maybe the weather will play a role in the course of the race or something, so I’ll try to win.
The stretch to the first corner is very short, but this year we usually have a good start. Max lacks a bit of stability and maybe it will be tomorrow if he starts badly.”
Lance walk (14th): “Today everything went wrong for me. The tires weren’t ready for a fast lap, then I was called in for the weigh-in, I missed turn 18 and lost half a second. All wrong.
There was an opportunity to achieve more. In the first part of qualifying I was third, but the second was not successful.
Starting in the middle group, I understand that the race will be difficult. You can try to tighten the starting segment to regain positions, or vice versa – change tires earlier and use “cut”. Let’s see. I hope it rains tomorrow.”
