Next season, Ferrari’s sporting director Laurent Mekis will take over Franz Tost as head of AlphaTauri. At the end of April, the head of the Scuderia, Frederic Vasseur, said that he had not yet discussed the terms of his departure from the team with Mekis, and during the podium in Monaco, Laurent himself assured that the final decision had not yet been made.
But as the Italian press learned, the parties managed to reach an agreement. A meeting was held in Monaco with the participation of Ferrari president John Elkann, team principal Frederic Vasseur and Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner, where the parties agreed on the terms under which Mekis would leave Ferrari.
None of the teams confirm this officially, but Laurent Mekis will finalize at the Scuderia until the end of June, after which he will take a mandatory six-month vacation. As a result, he will be able to take up his new responsibilities at AlphaTauri in January 2024.
According to unconfirmed information, Mekis will be finalized at the base in Maranello for the remaining month and will no longer go to the Grand Prix with Ferrari. How true this information is will become clear in a few days in Barcelona.
