Oscar Piastri called the recent Monaco Grand Prix one of the toughest in his short Formula 1 career so far, but there were positive moments for the McLaren driver in the final race. On the wet track, Max Verstappen overtook the Australian by a lap, and Oskar took advantage of the situation and tried to get close behind Max to learn from him how to drive a Formula 1 car on a wet track.
“The fact that Max was right in front of me was very helpful in a way, as it was the first time I had driven a Formula 1 car on wet slicks,” said Oscar Piastri. “I knew if anyone could handle these conditions it would be Max.
Obviously on wet slicks he handled very carefully, and I was able to stay right behind him. Even after switching to intermediate tyres, I was riding close behind him quite confidently. But once the track started to dry out he felt more comfortable and went much faster. But at first I was able to hold it – this is the best I could do. It’s fun”.
