Before the start of the weekend in Barcelona, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz spoke about the stage ahead…
Q: For the first time since you’ve been in Formula 1, Barcelona are using a configuration without a chicane in the last sector. Are you happy with these changes? Will the fight become more spectacular?
Carlo Sainz: Yes, that’s a good idea. It will be interesting to race with the new third sector configuration. There was nothing wrong with this chicane, but it’s good to try a different approach and see how it affects the lap time and the course of the race. I look forward.
Q: Your career started in Spain. What do you remember about your first races? What tracks did they walk on?
Carlo Sainz: Spain has long been closely associated with motorsport, the country has many racetracks. I spent my first kart races in my native Madrid. After that, he started traveling all over the country and participating in different categories. Then I did my first lap in a single car in Jarama
Maria de Villota was my instructor that day and I will always cherish her memory. She was a wonderful person and athlete, and since she sadly passed away I have always worn her emblem – a star – on the back of my helmet.
Question: Also this year you have a personalized stand Grada CS55. What do you feel?
Carlo Sainz: I am very happy that there is my personal stand in Barcelona. Performing for Spanish fans is a great honor. The only pity is that the stands are not big, but I know that many of my fans are also in other stands.
It’s hard to explain what it’s like to race in Formula 1 at home. I hope we put on a good show and get a good result. They can be sure that I will give everything.
