Before the weekend in Barcelona, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff summed up the results of the last race and talked about the stage ahead…
Toto Wolff: “Rain during the race is always a challenge, but in Monaco the team handled it well. We made the right decisions and earned points. In Monaco it was impossible to evaluate the effect of our new products, but there were no unpleasant surprises.
For Barcelona, where we can evaluate the effectiveness of the updated W14. We are familiar with this track, although after removing the last chicane the circle will become faster. The configuration includes a wide range of turns, which allows you to get acquainted with the features of the new aerodynamic body kit. We do not expect a sharp increase in competitiveness, but we hope that the updated car will provide a good platform for further development.
After the weekend is over, Mick Schumacher will take the wheel and test the W14 for the first time in real conditions on the second day of Pirelli tire testing. So far he has done a great job running the simulator. We are looking forward to seeing him on track for the first time this year and we are sure it will help him as a reserve driver.”
