After the Monaco Grand Prix, Sergio Perez trailed Max Verstappen in the individual standings, which rose to 39 points. The Mexican Red Bull Racing driver remains optimistic, however, saying in Barcelona that he still has a chance to get ahead of his partner in 2023.
Sergio Perez: “Somehow I showed the same speed as Max from the beginning of the season. Sometimes I perform a little better, sometimes a little worse, but that’s okay with me. Being Max’s partner is the hardest thing in Formula 1 because he is the driver who makes the most of every situation. However, I believe it is possible to beat him. To do this, I have to be stable and regularly outperform him. That’s the main goal for me.”
Commenting on his performance in Monaco, Sergio took full responsibility for the accident in qualifying, which prevented him from earning any points in the race: “Formula 1 is my passion, I live for racing, so it is very painful to lose the whole let’s work together after hard work.
For me, Monaco is a thing of the past, but it was important to raise your hand and acknowledge the mistake – that’s what I did, take responsibility. If I not only crashed the car, but was also half a second or a second behind, then I would be more concerned. The positive, however, is that I have the speed and ability to change the situation. Now I’m more focused on working on a particular weekend – I want to win.”
