In Monaco, Esteban Ocon climbed to the podium and finished third. At the FIA press conference ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the Alpine driver cautiously assessed the chances of repeating such a result in Barcelona.
Esteban Ocon: “I have many relatives who live near Barcelona, and my grandparents are Spaniards. This is, in fact, my second near-home lap in a row, so I’m happy to be on track and ready to attack with all my might, especially after such a successful race in Monaco.
On Sunday after the race, we threw a powerful party. I was happy to celebrate success with my team – it’s great that everyone got an award for hard work after a rough start to the season. We can be satisfied with what we have achieved, but in Barcelona we are firmly on our feet.
This weekend we will be able to understand what the car is really capable of after installing new items on it. Everyone knows the track very well and is waiting for this test.
You can be sure that in Barcelona we will do our best to try to replicate the Monaco result – we don’t just come to the races to participate. But, as I said, we’re firmly on the ground and want to understand first of all where we’re in thanks to new products. There is no better track than Barcelona to judge a car’s performance.”
