The McLaren drivers failed to finish in the top ten on the first day of the Spanish weekend, with Oscar Piastri ahead of his much more experienced teammate. But Lando Norris complained about some problems with the car, although he did not specify.
Oscar Pistri (12th): “Working on the track during practice left a completely normal impression, from the first to the second session I managed to progress quite well.
I think we still need to work on the pace in one fast lap, but on long heats we look more or less competitive, so overall we can be happy with what we’ve done.
In the evening we will try to make further improvements, I will analyze the telemetry and draw some conclusions to better prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying.
Lando Norris (14th): “This track is very different from Monaco, and it took me a few laps to get into the right rhythm, which requires work here in Barcelona.
In the first session we had some problems with the car, but in the second session we improved. There is a lot to analyze in the evening to try and get a higher pace out of the car.
Overall it’s not that bad, but it just needs to work on improving the handling to go one step further for Saturday.”
