Simone Berra: Busy Friday! – all the news of Formula 1 2023

On Friday, the teams tested their new products and were able to try out the new Pirelli tires – the Italian company decided to finalize the C1 compound to withstand the high side loads at Silverstone, where it will make its debut.

Simone Bera, Chief Engineer: “It was a busy Friday in Barcelona. In addition to the usual program in which the teams evaluated the three available compounds, they also tested two sets of new C1 tyres, which will be used from the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The performance of the new tires was in line with our expectations. Some teams even used them during long laps to collect data for Sunday’s race.

The C1 tires introduced this year build on the experience gained at last year’s Spanish Grand Prix, when hard tyres, now referred to as C0, were hardly used in the Spanish Grand Prix due to sub-optimal performance. Now modern C1 tires are very actively used by racers.

It is worth noting the incredibly dense results. In the second practice, seventeen riders were less than a second apart.”
