Tsunoda: Settings must be changed before you qualify

AlphaTauri drivers Nick de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda set a 16th and 17th fastest time in the second practice session in Barcelona. The team has made no secret of the fact that it was not possible to find the optimal settings for the car today, but they expect to add on Saturday and fight to reach the qualifying final.

Nick deVries (16e): “Good day, especially the first practice. We are not yet in the positions we want to be, but we are already on the right track. We didn’t succeed in the second part of free practice, but the team tried out different solutions that will give us a better understanding of how to act tomorrow, when it matters.

In the evening we will evaluate the effectiveness of new products – today is the first day when we had the opportunity to fully test them. After installing updates, you need to pay more attention to the front axle of the car, whereas before we paid equal attention to both the front and rear.

I’m not sure the new track configuration is conducive to Sunday overtaking – I found it difficult to chase down rivals. But I don’t think it’s worth jumping to conclusions.”

Yuki Tsunoda (17th): “Overall the day went well. Today we were at the end of the pack, so for tomorrow’s qualifying we need to change the settings to take the highest positions possible.

Thanks to the last two corners, the track got faster, but the load on the tires increased. Tomorrow is a new day, so the team has time to work on fixing our weaknesses. As usual, in the evening I will work with the engineers to find ways to increase the speed of the car in order to qualify for the second part and possibly even the final.
