McLaren team principal Andrea Stella commented on one of this week’s major news: the signing of a contract with Rob Marshall, who will take over as technical director at Woking from next year.
Andrea Stella: “Rob joins our team and will of course bring his unique experience and know-how to the development of Formula E cars. He has been instrumental in building such a strong division as Red Bull’s engineering department. Therefore, we are very pleased that Rob is ready to join us in bringing McLaren to the forefront.
Now that the team’s technical structure is in place, it’s solid enough to even take a day off! (laughs).”
Stella also said that at McLaren, by expanding production facilities, they used the team’s old base but now takes on a different function: “I’m delighted to announce that our old base has been repurposed and now the composite division of McLaren racing.
In fact it’s in the final stages of furnishing, in a few months everything will be ready, and this is a wonderful project that has freed up some space in the McLaren Technology Center, and we’re using it to work with our heritage cars .”
Of course, Stella said a few words about the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix: “We remain realistic in assessing the competitiveness of the MCL60 in its current version. There are a lot of long corners on this track, which our car can’t handle well. If we manage to fight for the last session in qualifying and get some points on Sunday, we will be happy.”
