Mainly cloudy. Dry. Air +20C, rail +27C
At the start of Saturday practice, the track was surrounded by storm clouds, lightning flashed on the horizon, but the rain held off, the track remained dry – and in the first minutes the riders rushed to the track to have time to get to the job to work. slicks.
Red flags appeared before it started to rain. On the tenth minute, Logan Sargent too actively attacked the curb in the final corner and flew off the track. The car tore over a gravel trap and crashed into a guardrail.
The speed at the time of impact was low, the rider was not injured, but the suspension was broken, the car had to be evacuated. Sargent apologized to the team and returned to the pits.
As the break continued, it started to drizzle with rain in some corners. Umbrellas opened in the stands and when the traffic light at the exit of the pit lane turned green, no one was in a hurry to leave the pits. A downpour was expected, which did not start.
Lando Norris went to recon on intermediate tires, but the track was almost dry. A few minutes later, the Ferrari drivers left. There was not enough water for intermediate tires and nobody wanted to risk a crash on slicks a few hours before qualifying.
The rain stopped, the track dried up and in the final minutes everyone went back to slicks. Max Verstappen showed the best time, he drove a lap before the rain started in 1:13.664.
