The Williams team at full strength did not leave the first part of the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying – Alex Albon showed the 18th fastest time, Logan Sargent – the 20th. Both riders took responsibility for this result.
Alex Albon (18th): “I really like the weather conditions in which qualifying was held. Usually I do well, but today on the first lap I damaged the car, which affected the whole session. Too bad, because we could have had a good pace.
For us this weekend is more of a test as we lose more than usual to our rivals. We focused on the race when choosing the car settings, so tomorrow we need to be in good shape.”
Logan Sargent (20th): “First of all I would like to thank the team for fixing the car in qualifying. I did well on the first quick attempt, but the pit lap for the last attempt failed because everyone wanted to be ahead before they started their attempt. This prevented me from getting the tires into working range, which is disappointing.
I am disappointed, but through our own fault this morning we were in the role of catching up. Tomorrow will be difficult, but we’ll see what we can do.”
