Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner is happy with Max Verstappen’s next pole position and thinks the retirement of Sergio Perez, who failed to qualify for the final, is related to rubber…
Christian Horner: “Max is in top form. He demonstrated this in Monaco and confirmed it here. Last weekend we felt that our car’s strengths weren’t working, but it still turned out to be the strongest, and today everything worked – and he took full advantage of it.
Qualifying was not easy for Sergio. The tires cooled and it was only on the last attempt that he was able to get out of the first session – helped by an improvement in track conditions, but failed to reach the final. He only starts 11th, the race will not be easy for him.
Tires are the determining factor. After the first part of qualifying, we checked the aerodynamic load on his car’s tires – everything was fine, we didn’t see any part that wasn’t working properly.
In the evening we study everything again. It was necessary to simply put the tires into operation, but this was not possible. We know Sergio is fast, but today he couldn’t get the car to start.”
