Mike Krak: We go from race to race

Aston Martin boss Mike Krak on the opening of the new base and the mood in the team…

Q: Mike, what’s the mood like in the Aston Martin pits this weekend, playing on Fernando’s home track?
Mike Crack: Good mood, not only in the pits, but on the whole track, all over the city. Everywhere you go you will see fans wearing our team greens. It’s nice to see such an approach.

Q: In Monaco you finished second. How far are you from the first win?
Mike Crack: Hard to say. In Formula 1 the results are always relative, you are just as dependent on the speed of your opponents as you are on yourself. It would be too bold to say that we have a chance to win or that we are close.

Let’s see. You have to take every opportunity, and if there is a chance to win the race, be ready for it. But now I can’t tell you when we will win.

Q: The team has recently moved to a new building in Silverstone, in effect you have a new base. Tell me about it…
Mike Crack: The new base is great. You should come take a look at it. We moved last week. Not everything is ready yet, but the first floor is already occupied, people smile, communicate more easily – already on the first day we were convinced that communication has become much more productive. You meet employees you rarely saw before. The first week went well.

The work is still ongoing. It is necessary to prepare everything for production, to start the machines and autoclaves – this cannot be done in five minutes, to transfer the simulator. But all these tasks are planned in advance and performed gradually.

Q: Last year you brought a lot of new products to the Spanish stage. How many races were it then necessary to realize their potential?
Mike CrackA: It took time. But it is not certain that the same amount of time will be needed this year, or that our situation can be copied to another team. Multiple races.

Q: On Thursday, Fernando met with the fans, the communication was very emotional and he told them that he wants to stay with Aston Martin for a few years. What do you think?
Mike Crack: Nice to hear he said that. We would also like to work with him for several years. His desire to always be ahead of everyone’s great drives.

In fact, we don’t look that far ahead, but we move forward from race to race and try to succeed in every race.
