Gunther Steiner apologizes to the stewards

On Friday, the stewards called in Haas F1 team boss Gunther Steiner to explain what he said during the final round in Monaco, where he accused the stewards of being unprofessional.

In particular, the Italian said: “Formula 1 is one of the biggest sports in the world, in which decisions are still made by non-professionals.”

The FIA media delegate appealed to the stewards over this statement, suggesting a breach of three articles of the FIA’s international sporting code.

At the hearing, Steiner said he was misunderstood, and the word “non-professionals” only refers to the fact that this job is not their profession for the stewards. He issued an apology, which was then echoed by the team’s press office.

Günter Steiner: “Yesterday I attended the stewards’ hearing on the comments I made at my press conference last Thursday.

I expressed my disappointment and disagreement to the stewards at the decision taken by the Monaco stewards last weekend. The stewards said they were okay with people disagreeing with the decisions, but they were more concerned about the interpretation some of my comments were being subjected to.

I explained to the stewards that it was not my intention to offend anyone and that some of my words could be misinterpreted or misunderstood by some people.

I told the stewards that I apologized if my statements were misunderstood or hurt anyone, as this was not my intention. I repeat these apologies now.”
