Zhou: I had the best two days in Formula 1

At Barcelona, ​​Guangyu Zhou earned two points for ninth place, repeating his best result of the season. This result allowed Alfa Romeo to overtake Haas in the battle for seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship.

His Alfa Romeo teammate Valtteri Bottas finished 19th, scoring no points for the sixth consecutive race.

Guanyu Zhou (9th): “I enjoyed today’s race – I think the last two days have been my best in Formula 1 in terms of speed. I had a good first lap, which was crucial to take advantage of the opportunities later in the race. We had a fast pace and I checked the tire wear.

I knew I had to pressure the opponents to get a result when the opportunity presented itself – I tried to force the opponents to make a mistake. I had the speed to get ahead of Yuki Tsunoda – I was running with active DRS and got half a length ahead into the corner, but he didn’t let me go so I had to get off track to avoid contact.

In the end everything went well and I earned two points, which can be considered a good result.”

Valttery Bottas (19th): “First of all, I congratulate Zhou and the team on their points. He showed good pace, which is encouraging for the next races – the team’s hard work in the base at Hinwil and on track is paying off.

As for my race, I damaged the underside – most likely from debris at the start, which affected the speed of the car. I had no pace and couldn’t compete with anyone – the race for me turned out to be a long one.

I know we will leave the race in the past and get back on track soon before we head to Montreal in two weeks. We are waiting for a different type of track – I hope it suits our car. Last year we had a great pace in Montreal and the team got a good result. I hope we can repeat that result and continue the successful Canadian streak.”
