Lando Norris: There’s no point in making excuses

McLaren racers in Barcelona earned no points, although Lando Norris started from third position and even went into battle with Ferrari. But according to his partner, Oscar Piastri, the way things unfolded at the Spanish Grand Prix brought them back to life.

Oscar Pistri (13e): “You could say that we had hoped for a better result. I am angry with the results of the race, but at the same time I did not drive the first lap and then it turned out that the car simply did not have enough speed.

Now we have to understand what the difficulties were related to, because what happened today does not improve the mood, although yesterday together with the team we showed a very good result. But today we had to get back to reality and we just have to find out the causes of the problems that hinder us on Sunday.

Today the temperature on the track was higher, but there were other factors that could influence the pace, and all this will have to be analyzed in detail.

Lando Norris (17th): “At the start, I expected to overcome the 2nd corner with a normal speed, but I did not notice how someone’s car was about to fly off the track in front of him, and everyone braked sharply.

I think I was just unlucky, although I may have somehow acted wrong and misjudged the situation myself. After the race it’s always easier to talk about how you could do it. At the start I tried to use the slipstream of the car in front of me, but everyone started to shift to the right. Although I may not have started in the best way.

Maybe we should have tried to get ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the outside radius in the first corner. But he acted very decisively and everything could fly off the track. However, there is no point in looking for excuses.

Again, I was just unlucky, but it also happens. It was a difficult race and in any case today we lacked the speed to qualify for the points. Although yesterday’s third result in qualifying was very pleasing and made us hope we could compete for top ten places. We’ve had race pace issues since the start of the season, but unlike qualifying it’s just shocking.”
