Only Carlos Sainz scored points for Ferrari in Spain, finishing fifth, 45 seconds behind the leader, and saying the track in Barcelona was too difficult for the SF-23.
Carlos Sainz: “The whole race I just thought about saving tires. On this track I just couldn’t attack.
Barcelona showed the weaknesses of our car. We were forced to minimize losses by simply doing laps at a certain pace, and sometimes we couldn’t match it. We don’t like tracks with fast corners and abrasive asphalt.
In qualifying I managed to put in a very good lap and in the race we were back at our real race pace.
It is difficult to say whether the innovations have helped. I know that all our base personnel have done everything they can to prepare. We probably took them to the worst track of the season for us. She just doesn’t suit us. Here we have not been able to fully appreciate them.”
