Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Helmut Marko commented on Max Verstappen’s retirement during the Australian Grand Prix. According to the Austrian, the reigning world champion dropped out because of a fuel leak.
“Max stopped because of a fuel leak, but we don’t know where it came from,” Helmut Marko told Germany’s Sky Sport. – The leak was strong, so we told Max to stop immediately, and preferably where there is a fire extinguisher.
Not only do we have reliability issues, we also have issues that we don’t know the cause of. Another problem is obesity. Our car is heavier than a Ferrari, and given the budget constraints it is difficult to solve this problem.
Difficult times await us. Today Ferrari’s speed came as a surprise to us. They didn’t have to take care of the tires as much as we did. Ferrari is in a class of its own. We are clearly behind, although Sergio had a great race.”
