Alex Albon: In the race we decided to take a chance

Alex Albon took 10th place in the Australian Grand Prix with a bold tactic: the Williams driver completed 56 laps on a set of hard tires and only switched to soft tires on the penultimate lap, eventually finishing in the top ten.

Alex Albon (10th): “I was very happy with how everything went today. When we arrived at the track in the morning, we studied the predictions for the race at the start from last position and were sad. But the day ended with the fact that we could earn a point for 10th place, which is great.

In the race we decided to take a gamble, we managed to achieve an efficient operation of the rubber and the car worked better and better. The last 25 laps of the race I drove at a qualifying pace!

I think the result was a confirmation of the work the team is doing at the base and on the track. Great day and I’m glad I contributed to this result.”

Nicholas Latific (16th): “The race was definitely tough, but we expected it after doing a long series of laps in practice two. It seems we have serious problems with rubber: the tires of both compounds were very grainy and I couldn’t warm them up to the right temperature.

There were many events during the race, a safety car appeared on the track several times and a virtual safety car mode was introduced. It’s nice that Alex finished 10th and I’m very happy for the whole team.

The start of the season was not easy for me, I have to improve in many areas. If Alex manages to get a good pace out of the car, there’s no reason to stop us from doing the same. Now it is necessary, without sparing time and effort, to analyze the information collected and understand how we can increase the effectiveness of our FW44.

Jost CapitoTeam Principal: “It’s good that we opened the scoring with points earned at such an early stage of the season, I’m really happy for everyone because the team deserved it.

The start of the championship was difficult and even yesterday we had difficulties, but in racing the good thing is that on Sunday the picture can change because the battle lasts until the end. If you keep the right attitude, don’t slow down and believe in yourself, then happiness can smile on you.
