The Australian weekend ended with the victory of Charles Leclerc and Mattia Binotto is delighted with Ferrari’s success and emphasizes that it is the result of the efforts of the whole team.
Mattia Binotto: “We hoped we could do it, but we can’t be too happy because this is only the third race of the season. We must pay tribute to the whole team, because despite the difficult times we have kept unity, we have continued to work, we have strived for better results and now we are seeing the fruits of our efforts.
We are happy because a win is always beautiful. We have a fast car, the team and drivers have confirmed that we are competitive, so we have reason to be happy. But we have to stay focused because every race is a new test. We know that to succeed at any stage, you need to do all the tasks to the best of your ability – now we have such a mindset.
Of course, this is just the beginning and there is still a lot of work to be done. We hope that there will be a full house on the stage in Imola and that we can celebrate successes together with the fans. Our team has not come to this track for a long time as championship leader and although we do not know what result we will get there, we will of course try to perform as well as possible.
We pay special attention to technical reliability, because Ross Brawn has always taught me: the most important thing is to get to the finish, and that’s our approach. Obviously success is never guaranteed, so let’s enjoy the result we achieved today.”
The only problem of the Australian weekend was Carlos Sainz dropping out of the race, due to a mistake after a bad start. But it all started in the qualifying final, when the Spaniard just had bad luck.
“When we talk about Sainz, the circumstances were against him, because he could start from at least 4th position, and then his race would have been different,” Binotto added. – Problems in qualifying affected his mental attitude and then he made a mistake at the start of the race. But I know him well, he will analyze everything and become even stronger.
In Imola, Carlos will be able to recuperate, because he wants to prove that he is in no way inferior to Charles.
