FIA takes action to reduce car sway

We already mentioned that the FIA intends to investigate the consequences of the build-up of cars at high speeds and Thursday before the Canadian Grand Prix, the federation’s press service issued a statement on the issue.

It says that in the eighth stage of the World Cup, a phenomenon such as the aerodynamic vibrations of new generation cars was again observed, and this had consequences for the physical condition of the riders. The federation decided that for safety reasons it was necessary to intervene and demand that the teams take the necessary measures to counter this.

Championship teams sent a technical directive on these measures. Among which:

1. The FIAwill monitor the condition of the control bars under the underside of the car more closely and analyze both their design and wear.

2. A control parameter is introduced that takes into account the vertical acceleration during machine oscillations, which will set an acceptable limit for the level of vertical oscillations. The exact mathematical formula for determining this parameter is currently being studied by FIA experts and teams are invited to contribute to this process.

In addition to these measures, the FIA will hold a technical meeting with the teams to determine measures that will reduce the tendency of cars to roll over in the medium term.

3. In the interest of the riders’ safety, the federation decided to intervene after consultation with the doctors. In Formula 1, there is on-track fighting at speeds over 300 km/h and the driver must be fully focused on driving, and excessive fatigue or pain can have serious consequences if they affect concentration.

In addition, the negative impact of pitching on riders’ health is alarming as some of them recently complained of post-Grand Prix pain.
