Ferrari triumphs at Le Mans in the race’s centenary year

Hypercar Ferrari #51 crossed the finish line at Le Mans 1 minute 30.087 seconds ahead of the Toyota car, and that’s something of a sensation, because the factory team of the Japanese concern was considered the favourite, and there were reasons for that.

But the 24-hour race has its own laws: in addition to speed, experience, reliability and stability, such a mystical factor as luck is also important here. And since about 12 o’clock she has been on the side of the AF Corse team.

Ferrari returned to the most prestigious category of endurance racing after a 50-year hiatus and won at Le Mans – books will no doubt be written about it in Italy. But probably not only in Italy. This triumph is at least some consolation for the tifosi after all the failures the Scuderia has endured in Formula 1.

The team entrusted 39-year-old Ferrari factory driver Alessandro Pierre Guidi, who had already won Le Mans in the LMGTE-Pro category in 2019, to lead the final leg of the race.

But, of course, his partners – Antonio Giovinazzi and James Calado – were full co-authors of this important victory. Of course, the drivers of the second Ferrari crew, Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Niklas Nielsen, were also happy for their colleagues, although they only took fifth place today.
