The closer to the finish of the Le Mans marathon, the greater Ferrari’s advantage becomes: the #51 hypercar is almost three minutes ahead of the only Toyota left on the track.
In the factory team of the Japanese concern, 29-year-old Ryo Hirakawa was entrusted with the last part of the distance, but in the decisive phase of the race he made a mistake and flew off the track at the Arnage corner, losing the car. The problems weren’t that serious, but the Japanese lost time driving off the side of the road, after which the team had to replace a number of body panels on the hypercar.
Half an hour before the end of the race, Ferrari is confidently in the lead, and fans of the Italian AF Corse team naturally watch the events on the track with bated breath.
“We have come in an incredible way, because a year ago our team had no specialists, no machine, but what we have achieved is just amazing! said Antonio Giovinazzi, ex-Formula 1 driver who now competes in endurance races. – It was not easy for us, the Toyota crew put pressure on us, but we in turn tried to attack them and tried to make our opponents make mistakes.
The race is on, so we have to keep pushing, but the team did a great job, many thanks to her! There were a lot of accidents in the race, as we were leading a few times with over a minute lead, but there were also some incidents. But this is Le Mans, we understood that anything can happen here, so we tried to make as few mistakes as possible and drive steadily, because that’s what this is all about.”
