In the last stage in Barcelona, McLaren did not score any points. The team acknowledges the race pace issues and is working to improve it, and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri expect to bounce back at next weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Lando Norris: “I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in Canada. The race in Spain proved difficult, but both me and the team learned a lot from it, including a high third in Saturday’s qualifying.
After a double series of stages, we had a week’s rest, during which I came to the McLaren base to prepare for this weekend with the engineers. The Jacques Villeneuve circuit can be difficult for us because of the heavy braking before the chicanes, but the race can be interesting. I’m excited and I hope we can earn some points.”
Oscar Pistri: “We are returning to the track after a week of hard work in the base. I have prepared for the weekend with my engineers and I feel ready for my debut at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The stage in Spain proved bittersweet for the team. Sunday wasn’t easy, but there were positive moments in Saturday’s qualifying.
This year we can achieve more – for this the team is working hard to increase the race pace. We will do our best in Canada and try to make it a successful weekend.”
Andrew Stella, team leader: “We left Spain with an unsatisfactory result. After a successful qualifying, both our riders started in the top ten, but the race became more difficult due to the pace and Lando’s incident in the first corner. We will learn our lessons and try again.
The Canadian circuit is loved by many riders. It’s complex, fast, but with serious braking and slow cornering, where the efficiency of the car under acceleration is important. From a long-term perspective, the team is on the right track – the results will come when we improve the car. However, we will try to get the maximum in the next stage in Canada.”
