Pierre Gasly earned points in three races in a row, but in Spain the circumstances were such that after the 4th result in qualifying he was fined, after which he only started 10th and finished in the same position. Of course he expects to perform more successfully in Canada, together with Alpine F1.
Q: How do you evaluate the results of the last two races?
Pierre Gasley: Stages in Monaco and Spain followed each other, so two weeks were very eventful. We left Barcelona with mixed feelings, because after such a good performance on Saturday, we only finished tenth on Sunday.
Of course I wanted to fight for higher places and earn more points, but for this you have to start from higher positions. But in the last two races we have been competitive and that is encouraging.
There are some things that still need to be worked on and some weaknesses that need to be addressed, but overall we have a positive attitude and we need to make full use of it to continue to make progress. Now we have a podium in Canada and my goal is to get as many points as possible.
Q: What did you do last week to prepare for the Montreal race?
Pierre Gasley: It was useful to relax a bit, because before the summer break we are waiting for five races in seven weeks. It’s also important to keep fit, so I spent some time at home in Milan, but I tried to train as much as possible.
I was lucky, last weekend I went to the Roland Garros tennis tournament and saw Novak Djokovic’s historic final. It is always very interesting to see the achievements of the best masters of other sports, especially being right where such important events take place.
Q: What can you say about the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix?
Pierre Gasley: After racing on the classic circuit in Barcelona, we return to the city circuit in Montreal. It’s very cool to drive there, it’s very fast, it has heavy braking zones and tight corners. When I was training on the simulator at Enstone in preparation for this Grand Prix, everything seemed to be going well and I want to start Friday practice as soon as possible.
The weather promises to be interesting, rain is quite likely, so we have to be prepared for all conditions, and then we’ll see what we can achieve. In addition, Montreal is generally a very nice place, especially in this city they speak French. That is why we are always very warmly supported there and I am already looking forward to diving into this atmosphere.
