Okon: We can be proud of the team’s progress

After a podium in Monaco and points in Barcelona, Esteban Ocon is looking forward to the Canadian Grand Prix…

Q: How are you feeling this part of the season?
Esteban Ocon: We can be proud of the team’s progress after a bad start to the season, which fell short of our expectations. In three races in a row we scored points with two cars and I came on the podium.

The team worked tirelessly, this result is the result of their efforts on track and in the base. But we understand that we are still inferior to rivals – and we are working on it. Every race is a chance to take another chance and we’re excited to be able to do that this weekend in Montreal.

Q: Do you feel at home in Montreal given the fan support?
Esteban Ocon: Yes, this race is similar to the home race. Immediately after landing in Canada, we feel supported. Montreal is primarily a French-speaking city, French riders feel that immediately.

This is a cool and dynamic city, which is transformed during the Grand Prix. There is a feeling that Formula 1 is everywhere. This is the best place on the calendar, we like to come here again and again and hope for a good weekend. It will be great to perform again for emotional Canadian fans.

Q: What do you think of the job?
Esteban Ocon: Excellent circuit, where I like to fly. Most turns in Montreal are double apexes, requiring a quick change of direction. The track is surrounded by barriers, you are always on your guard, you cannot lose your concentration for a second. Tire wear is usually high because we use the softest compounds.

The track configuration “accelerate – brake” increases the chance of overtaking, which is extra interesting. Last year we achieved sixth place, now we have to repeat or even improve this result!
