Racer Nikita Mazepin has told how he organized his life after being forced out of Formula 1

Russian racing driver Nikita Mazepin during the “Champions: from a medal to a brand” session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, he told how he organized his professional activities after his forced departure from Formula 1.

The Haas team terminated the contract with Mazepin, who had been playing for them since March 2021, at the beginning of March.

– How did you decide on your actions after the team news?

“Last year was really difficult. I started racing at the age of 5 and it took me 18 years to get there. Formula 1 is a very competitive sport, where there are only 20 drivers and the skill for one place is insane. Most of them are on long term contracts. I had a chance.

They took the wrong road in 2019 spending a lot of money on a car that wasn’t the best. We were forced to reduce the budget to shoot in the future. All last year we were forced to take a bad position because our car was worse. But we lived for tomorrow, 2022. We believed that tomorrow we can achieve our efforts.

But, unfortunately, I worked the tests in Barcelona at the end of February, I returned home before the race in Bahrain, but at 11:45 am on March 5, the team manager sent me an email stating that the contract was terminated. Since then, not a single person from the team has contacted me. Although, as normal people, we ate breakfast together, traveled the world, didn’t just talk about work. This day therefore turned out to be difficult, because everything happened unexpectedly. I understand that I am not getting any younger and that sport is associated with age. And the question arose in front of me – what to do next.

Then I had the idea to organize the fund “We act as one”, today it began to work and work. Today we have launched a website through which we will cooperate with athletes who will meet our 4 criteria. Funding for the project belongs to me. I fund this project entirely myself. But as the fund grows and operates productively, we may enter into partnership agreements with other companies,” Mazepin said.

The XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum takes place from June 15 to 18. Gazprom-Media Holding is the general media partner of SPIEF-2022.
