Michele Pignatti on the Ferrari museums in Maranello and Modena

Ahead of the Canadian weekend, Ferrari Museum director Michele Pignatti Morano answered questions from the team’s press office…

Q: This weekend we celebrate a special event in the history of Enzo Ferrari and his company. How are you going to celebrate?
Michael Pignatti: It is 100 years ago that Enzo Ferrari took his first victory at the Savio circuit, near Lugo di Romagna, in the hometown of pilot Francesco Baracca. On this occasion, Ferrari first met the father of the great aviator, from whom he later inherited the “galloping stallion”.

At the Modena Museum, we wanted to celebrate this anniversary by recreating the event and racing spirit of the time. A special exhibition is available to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays. We will be donating all proceeds from the weekend to charity benefiting flood victims in Emilia-Romagna.

Q: The Museum in Maranello is one of two existing Ferrari museums. What distinguishes the museum in Modena?
Michael Pignatti: The Ferrari Museum in Maranello has been open since 1995. It is a must-see for Ferrari fans and welcomes 400,000 visitors from all over the world each year.

The exhibition in Maranello is dedicated to the history of the company, the evolution of production processes, supercars, the forerunners of technological innovations, our Formula 1 champions and other drivers.

The Museum in Modena, complementary to the Museum in Maranello, since 2014 allows you to dive into the history and origins of our founder – Enzo Ferrari, his birthplace, an outbuilding of his father’s workshop, where the Ferrari Motor Museum is located, and a futuristic exhibition space, hosting temporary exhibitions, which change every year on Enzo’s birthday, February 18.

Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your passion for this company?
Michael Pignatti: I was born on February 2, 1966 in Johannesburg, South Africa, the sixth child in a family of seven. My father was a diplomat, he traveled all over the world, but he was from Modena. I have been with Ferrari for more than 20 years.
