In Baku, Sebastian Vettel scored points for the third time this season – sixth place in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was his best result since the start of the championship. Before the start of the Canadian race weekend, the four-time world champion noted the progress of the Aston Martin team with satisfaction.
Sebastian Vettel: “Our company is getting better, although we have not prepared any technical innovations in the last two races. But we understand the characteristics of the machine better and this helps to find the optimal settings.
In Barcelona we got a practically new car, and then we had no experience with it at all. But now we learn more about the car. It is worth adding that in the middle of the pack there is a very tight fight and the gaps are quite small. Therefore, if we manage to add a little speed, it will be immediately visible in the results and we will start to look better. And I also like technical tracks, where steering precision is required and something still depends on the rider.
When we talk about Montreal, we have to be realistic. If we manage to earn points, this is already a success for us. In addition, we must not forget that we have moved up two positions in Baku after the retirement of both Ferrari drivers.
It’s not easy to get high results as the first four positions are usually taken by the drivers of the top two teams, then there’s Mercedes, which is also slightly ahead of the rest of the teams in the middle group – as it turns out we in the top ten can only compete for the remaining four places. The McLaren team usually looks pretty confident, although they didn’t perform well in Baku, but I think they are fast too.”
