Daniel Ricciardo flew to Canada in a good mood: first, he earned points in Baku and took 8th place, and secondly, he always loved the Montreal circuit, where he took his first Formula 1 victory in 2014.
Daniel Ricciardo: “Of course the first win brought me a lot of joy, but I still remember my very first lap on this track – I drove it in 2012, when I played for Toro Rosso. I always really enjoyed flying here, I liked the job right away. It has its own special character because of the curbs and some parts of the track resemble a go-kart track which is great overall.
Talking about the race in Baku, our business there was certainly better than in the previous phases of the season. It’s nice that we’ve seen some positive developments – that’s why the work we’ve done after Monaco is having an effect. Although Azerbaijan also had its own difficulties…
With regard to the FIA technical directive, in my opinion it is necessary to avoid unnecessary risks, and one that we cannot control in any way. It does not surprise me that doctors warn of dangerous health consequences, because in Baku we had to experience very unpleasant sensations. Perhaps this was due to the characteristics of the McLaren car, which under certain conditions was manifested by low ground clearance.
It should be added that according to the results of the first practice session at the Montreal circuit, Riccardo was on the tenth line of the protocol.
