Aston Martin is the only team this season that has not yet earned any points. In Melbourne Lance Stroll finished 12th and Sebastian Vettel crashed his car for the second time this weekend…
Mike Krak, team leader: “I want to forget such a weekend as soon as possible. Sebastian had an accident exiting corner four and was taken to the medical center for a check-up, but I’m happy to report that he’s okay.
Our quarterbacks responded to the safety car that came out on lap four by sending Lance into the pits twice. He started on Hard tires, which we expected to outperform over the course of the course, then did a lap on Medium and returned to Hard. We hoped he could earn points with this strategy, but this didn’t happen.
Now we return to basics at Silverstone and prepare for the podium at Imola, where we hope to perform better.”
Lance Walk (12th): “Today we didn’t have enough speed to earn points. I think we chose the right strategy, because we drove almost the entire distance on Hard, but we will re-examine everything to understand what could have been done differently.
It was frustrating to get a five second penalty, but it didn’t change my position at the finish. I overtook Bottas after the end of the virtual safety car and regained the position, but then I was fined.
I want to thank the team – our guys did a great job recovering both cars after the accidents. We’ll keep our heads up and keep working to get more out of the car in the next races.”
Sebastian Vettel (retirement): “Today I was prevented by lack of experience with this machine. I overdid it with the attack, losing control of the car on the curb in Turn 4 and unable to avoid contact with the guardrail.
Today was the first time I took part in the race behind the wheel of this car, it’s a shame I didn’t manage to finish. The machine is complex, we keep looking for solutions to improve efficiency. Something went wrong this week, but it’s time to move on. I am sure that at Imola we will return to wrestling in better shape.”
