The race in Canada was the third in a row in which the Haas drivers did not earn any points. Nico Hulkenberg, after starting from fifth position, finished fifteenth. Kevin Magnussen started thirteenth and finished seventeenth. The team explained these results with a strong degradation of rubber.
Nico Hulkenberg (15th): “We drove in the wrong direction today on a one-way street. To some extent this result was expected, but we hoped for the best. In any case, we expected to perform better than in the previous phase.
The results of the race confirmed that the team still has a lot of work to do to improve race pace and stability as these are the areas we have the most problems with on Sunday.
Kevin Magnussen (17th): “We didn’t have enough speed to fight for the positions we wanted. At least I had problems with the tyres, they were more than the rivals.
Our car has very good pace in one fast lap – we’ve proven that many times this season, but you have to keep working to keep the pace in the race.
Gunter Steiner, Team boss: “It is clear that the result is not what we expected and that is very disappointing. I think we know what the problem is – once our racers are behind other cars in traffic, the tires start to deteriorate a lot, we can’t help it and roll back.
We know what to do and we look for a solution. Problems need to be solved, not trying to hide them with good qualifying results.”
