In Montreal, Alex Albon scored points for 7th place, and for the Williams team this is an important achievement. His teammate Logan Sargent retired due to technical problems.
Alex Albon (7th): “First of all I have to thank the team for a great weekend, because we upgraded the car and I think today’s result confirms that we have taken a step forward. In addition, the Canadian circuit suits us well.
Everyone who works at the Williams base has done a great job preparing for this series of updates. I also got a new power plant – in general, we threw all the reserves into battle this weekend.
Yesterday we had a great qualifying and today the race. The points earned have lifted Williams to ninth in the Constructors’ Championship and it’s a great way to thank the team for all they do.”
Logan Sargent (unclassified): “We had a very good start to the race and the FW45 allowed us to fight for positions. AlphaTauri’s car was in front of me, I actively tried to put pressure on the opponent and I felt we were fast enough. Unfortunately the team demanded that I stop the car as soon as possible – there were technical problems and this ended the race for me.
I learned a lot this weekend, including experience with heavy wet tires and wet riding in general, as well as riding medium heavy tires on a drying track.
Our car is capable of very good speeds on slicks, and although the day ended with a retirement, we have a reason to prepare for the stage in Austria with a good attitude.
Dave Robson, chief race engineer: “The day was different for our two drivers. We had to stop Logan’s race because we had an oil leak that was starting to have a negative effect on the operation of the power plant. Now it is necessary to check his car in detail to find out the source of the leak.
In Alex’s case, we had some advantage with the safety car coming out ahead of us at a good time, but we also managed to apply the one-stop tactic effectively.
In the past we have seen Alex drive great races and defend the position against a whole group of rivals. Today he overtook himself on the track, and his past experience and the pace the upgraded car was capable of helped him get a very good result.”
