Esteban Ocon started sixth in Montreal and finished eighth, earning points for Alpine. Pierre Gasly gained a few positions after a poor qualifying but finished the race outside the top ten.
Esteban Ocon (8th): “I think we can be happy that we scored points in another race, but this time we obviously didn’t use our full potential. The car was fast, but it wasn’t enough to get ahead of Alex Albon at Williams in the straight, who had the advantage in the straight.
We are going to think about how we can achieve more on Sunday. In qualifying everything went well, but in the race it was not possible to consolidate the success. I loved the battles with Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris – it was fun. I’m already looking forward to the Austrian Grand Prix.”
Pierre Gasley (12th): “Unfortunately I didn’t earn any points this time, which again shows the importance of the starting position. Unfortunately I fell out of contention in qualifying in the first session, and in the race we were a bit unlucky when the safety car came out, although the car was fast and allowed us to claim better results. Unfortunately this was not possible.
I’m looking forward to the next stage, which will be held in Austria in two weeks. We need to have a productive weekend, earning points both in the sprint and in Sunday’s race.”
