Leclerc: I did my best given the starting position

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished fourth and fifth in Montreal, giving Ferrari 22 points. Scuderia drivers are pleased with the weekend’s results, but noted that part of the result is due to the Canadian circuit matching their car’s characteristics.

Charles Leclerc (4e): “Given my starting position, I believe I did the maximum. On Friday the car left a pleasant impression over a long run of laps and the race confirmed Friday’s pace. On both compound tires, Medium and Hard, we looked pretty competitive. I am happy with the behavior of the car and this is a positive result of the weekend.

However, we need to improve the efficiency of the machine in all areas. From the very beginning of the season we have problems with stability, when the car is fast on Medium tyres, but after switching to Soft or Hard the behavior changes dramatically. We couldn’t understand the reason, but this weekend we took a different approach to working with the settings, which allowed us to achieve more stability in the behavior of the car in different compositions.

Carlo Sainz (5th): “I think we had a positive weekend. Throughout the stage we had a great pace and in the race we were able to compete with Mercedes and Aston Martin. We could have achieved more without qualifying, so let’s try next time. At least today the car was fast and allowed to attack.

The team is progressing, but our competitiveness still depends on the characteristics of the track. In Barcelona we had problems with fast corners, but when we went to Canada we knew we would be faster because the track suited us.

Let’s see where we are in the next stage in Austria, but at least in Canada we looked better than in Barcelona.”
