Mike Krak: We thought there was a problem with Alonso’s car

In the second half of the race in Montreal, Aston Martin engineers asked Fernando Alonso not to attack at full power and to save fuel. Immediately after the finish, the Spaniard said he did not know what the problem was, as the team did not provide details.

Speaking to the press after the race, Aston Martin boss Mike Krak said the team had asked Fernando to save fuel because they suspected a problem in the fuel system, but after the finish the fears turned out to be unfounded.

Mike Krak: We thought we had a problem with the fuel system, but we weren’t sure. As a precaution, we asked Fernando to save fuel and coast. How much time has been lost because of this? Hard to say. A few tenths – maybe one or two tenths on a circle.

When asked how much fuel was left in the tank of Alonso’s car after the finish, Krak replied: “Enough. It was a precaution. Choosing between the chance of not finishing and slowing down, we chose the safe option.

We thought there were problems with the fuel system, which never happened. Although the telemetry data showed that there could be a problem.
