Qualification
After qualifying in Montreal, Max Verstappen took the 25th pole of his career and the fifth of the season.
Nico Hülkenberg qualified second, with the best result since Brazil’10, but was penalized and only started fifth.
Fernando Alonso qualified third, but a penalty from Hulkenberg saw him start the race from the front row for the fourth time of the season and 42nd time in his career. Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill had the same number of front row starts.
Lewis Hamilton started third for the second time this season.
Carlos Sainz qualified eighth and started eleventh due to a penalty, losing his status as the only driver to start in the top five in all races this year.
Alex Albon reached the final of qualifying on a normal weekend for the second time this season – the same result was in Australia, and in Baku he reached the final in sprint qualifying.
Race
After winning the race in Montreal, Max Verstappen scored his sixth win of the season and the 41st of his career, equaling Ayrton Senna in this indicator.
This is Red Bull Racing’s 100th victory in Formula 1 and eighth in a row at the start of the season – a repeat of Mercedes’ start to the 2019 season. For the McLaren record – 11 wins in a row at the beginning of 1988, three more wins.
Verstappen led for the 27th race in a row – the best performance for current drivers.
At the wheel of an Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso achieved six podium finishes in the first eight Grands Prix of the season – twice as many as in the previous seven seasons combined.
Lewis Hamilton finished third, his tenth career podium in Montreal.
Alex Albon’s seventh place is Williams’ best result since Belgium’21. The team earned points for the second time this season and moved out of last place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Valtteri Bottas finished tenth and scored points in the last eight Canadian Grands Prix in a row.
