Riccardo: We quickly found the right rhythm

Racers McLaren summed up the results of Friday practice in Montreal – overall they are in a good mood, especially as they both love the Canadian track.

Lando Norris (8th): “Tough day, but it can be said that it went well because we did a lot of what was planned, although not everything.

We had a few problems, so I put in fewer laps than I would like. We are still lagging behind in some areas, especially in long series of circles. The rest of the car left a normal impression.

Of course we still have work to do to try and catch up with our competitors who are faster than us, but in general we have a positive attitude and in preparation for qualifying we will continue to improve the car.

Daniel Riccardo (9th): “I definitely missed this job, we haven’t been to Canada in several years. Piloting here is a lot of fun, it gives me pleasure. In my opinion this is one of the best routes of the calendar.

I think we quickly found the right rhythm and showed encouraging results over the course of the work. But let’s see what the weather is like – in my opinion we were very lucky today that the training took place on a dry track, but tomorrow everything could change.

We started the weekend well, and I hope so. that we can increase the speed slightly by working with the settings. All in all, it was an interesting Friday and I’m happy to be back in Canada.”

Andreas Seidli, team leader: “We managed to keep both practices on a dry track. This is good preparation for the race, as the weather forecast promises no rain on Sunday, but the weather could be changeable on Saturday.

Apart from a small malfunction in Lando’s car at the end of the first practice, there were no other problems today and we have been able to collect a fairly large amount of information, which will allow us to find the right settings for this track with its very uneven surface.

Being here for the first time since 2019, we have also gathered a lot of information about the performance of the rubber, which will be useful when planning tactics for a race that promises to be very interesting.

As in several previous races, the results in the middle of the pack are again very tight. In the evening we will analyze the collected information and tomorrow we will return to the track and do everything we can to reach the final of qualifying – this will increase the chances of earning points on Sunday.”
