Max Verstappen finished first in Montreal to give Red Bull Racing its 100th win in team history. Only Ferrari (242), McLaren (183), Mercedes (125) and Williams (114) have more Formula 1 victories.
Helmut Marko, an advisor to the Austrian motorsport company, commented on this historic achievement.
Helmut Marko: “We never thought that we could join the elite club of teams with more than a hundred victories. To be honest, it is more comfortable for me to go into the home stage in Austria with a hundredth win than if we had to try to win it in Spielberg.
Definitely, the race in Canada turned out to be more difficult than we expected. We had trouble warming up the tyres, especially the hard compound. It’s a good thing the Ferrari drivers started way back, because in fact they were fastest in both compounds.
During the race Max had two annoying moments. First he shot a bird, for which everything ended badly. Fortunately, the cooling was not affected and the car suffered no other damage.
Second, he overly confidently attacked the curbs. I don’t know if he saw him pass in the reruns on the big screens. But Max proved what he is capable of – his ability to predict the development of events is simply incredible. What is happening at the moment is already a thing of the past for him, because he is always looking ahead.
