The last time the German Grand Prix was held at Hockenheim in July 2019, but since then, if track management has returned to the subject of Formula 1, it is only in the context that further racing is impossible for financial reasons.
But it is possible that the situation will change in the future, at least in the words of Jorn Teske, Managing Director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH, there are already restrained notes of optimism. It is clear that both she and the German public have always been interested in Formula 1, but without external financial support, holding national podiums for promoters is simply unprofitable, despite the fact that it is unrealistic to receive it from government authorities.
“Of course we at the Hockenheimring are very interested in the Formula 1 race. There is no serious talk about the return yet, but the pressure is already building, so Formula 1 is contacting us and showing interest in negotiating.” Teske said in a statement. an interview with Watson.de. – Although we have been talking personally with Stefano Domenicali for quite some time, and I remember our conversation very well, but not the time when it took place.
But after that we have had several contacts with other leaders of Formula 1, with those who are directly responsible for relations with the promoters. The last time was a few weeks ago.
We are getting signals from the organizers of the championship that the return of the race is possible in the future. But so far these are just signals, nothing more and nothing less.
The problem is that we can’t recoup keeping the race just by selling tickets, these kinds of deals will be unprofitable for us. Therefore, the financial risks must be redistributed, and that requires partners interested in holding the German Grand Prix. After all, it cannot be the case that all parties want to make money from Formula 1 and only the circuit remains in the red.
Other countries are willing to consider the race as a marketing platform, but this is not the case in Germany. We don’t get any political support, without which nothing in the world works.
However, the performance of the Audi factory team in the 2026 World Championship could well revive the discussion. Although this does not mean that Audi will want to cover our financial shortfall, and we do not know that yet. But it is clear that in this case we will have to join forces so that Formula 1 returns to Germany.”
The last time the World Cup stage was held on the German circuit in October 2020 was the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
