Max Verstappen showed the best time in the first two training sessions and is optimistic about the rest of the weekend, while Sergio Perez admitted that he is one step behind for the time being…
Max Verstappen (1st): “Positive day. There is always something to improve on the car, but the start of the weekend turned out to be good.
Finding an approach to soft tires is always difficult, I think we can find speed reserves and go even faster, but overall we have a competitive car.
If it rains during qualifying, the conditions are the same for everyone. On Sunday we have to be fast, but we will soon know how qualifying will go.”
Sergio Perez (11th): “I have almost nothing to say. During training it is important to feel the car, find a good pace and keep going. I failed today. On a short series of circles, there were problems with the settings. Fortunately we were able to catch them and in long runs the speed was more in line with the car’s potential, but there were still some minor issues. Hopefully we’ll fix it on Saturday.
After Friday I will be one step behind, but I am sure we will find the right compromise and the car will be competitive again. Let’s see how the weather will affect tomorrow’s qualifying. Max is fast this weekend, hopefully we can make my car fast too.”
