The bulls parade

Victory at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix was Red Bull Racing’s 100th victory in Formula 1, making it the fifth team (after Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Mercedes) to achieve this tally of Grand Prix victories.

Red Bull also broke Williams’ record for the fewest races needed to reach 100 F1 wins. The Milton Keynes team achieved this result in just 281 races.

It was also his ninth victory in a row, equaling his longest winning streak having been achieved twice before – between the 2013 Belgian Grand Prix and the Brazilian Grand Prix, and between the 2022 French Grand Prix and the Price of Brazil from Mexico. It is only the eighth time the team have completed a nine-fight (or more) winning streak in F1.

Red Bull also became only the third team (after McLaren in 1988 and Mercedes in 2019) to win the first eight races of the season.

Max Verstappen is unstoppable.

Max Verstappen’s victory at the Canadian Grand Prix was the 41st of his career. As a result, he caught up with Ayrton Senna and shares fifth place with him in terms of number of Formula 1 victories.

Verstappen is the fifth driver to lead 200 consecutive laps in Formula 1 and the first since Sebastian Vettel in 2012. The 25-year-old now leads 224 consecutive laps, the longest streak in F1 since Nigel Mansell (235 laps leading from the Grand Prix to Brazil 1992 to the Monaco Grand Prix 1992).

The current double world champion has become just the fifth driver (after Alberto Ascari, Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna and Sebastian Vettel) to lead every lap in three consecutive races. He also became the fifth driver to win 20 races from pole.

The Dutchman’s victory in Canada was the 27th consecutive race in which he scored points, moving him to third place on the list of longest points scoring streaks in F1.

Another Fernando Alonso podium

Fernando Alonso’s second place in Canada was the 104th podium of his career. He passed Kimi Räikkönen for the fifth most podiums in F1. It was also his first podium in Canada since 2013 when he also finished second.

Alonso became the third driver (after Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen) to complete 1,000 laps on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes show signs of life

Lewis Hamilton reached the podium for the first time in 2023 in two consecutive races. Thanks to him, Mercedes has placed well at all Canadian Grands Prix since 2013.

50 years of the safety car

The 2023 Canadian Grand Prix marked the 50th anniversary of the safety car in Formula 1. It was first used at the 1973 Canadian Grand Prix held at Mosport Park.

Since its creation, the safety car has been used more than 300 times and completed almost 1,500 laps. The record for the longest use of a safety car was set at the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix when Bernd Maylander led 19 consecutive laps.
