In the eight Grands Prix already held in 2023, Fernando Alonso has climbed the podium six times and his Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll has never finished higher than fourth. Fernando shared what Lance needs to add to regularly fight for top three places.
Fernando Alonso: “I’ve known Lance since 2012 – we met in Montreal at one of the Ferrari events when I was playing for this team, and he was a member of their youth academy. I think Lance is showing speed and dedication behind the wheel. At the beginning of this season, he competed with a broken arm, which people only do when they have a real passion for what they do.
In the past we have seen many glimpses of Lance’s speed in wet qualifying, in the races, during the starts, on the first lap – he showed excellent results. But then he didn’t have a very good weekend. The reason could be a failed qualification or something else that affected the final result.
I think the most important thing for Lance is to get consistency in performance every weekend. This will allow him to take the next step in his career and regularly compete for top five places and earn points that matter at the end of the year.
Like I said, he has motivation and commitment. With Aston Martin’s continued development, it’s only a matter of time before Lance claims more.”
