Speaking about the team’s progress, Mike Krak, head of Aston Martin F1, noted that this is just the beginning as the potential of the upgraded version of the car is far from being fully revealed. He also admitted that the team had to apologize to the rider after Lance Stroll’s departure in Baku.
Mike Krak: “Sebastian’s result in Baku was very important for the team. But we must not forget that the potential of the car is far from being fully revealed and there is still a lot of work to be done to take it to the next level. Last Sunday we had a reason to cheer, but Monday we got back to work.
We need to make more progress, so we want to keep upgrading the car. Of course, we have to take into account the financial constraints in effect this year, but some time ago we made a plan for this work and now we try to stick to it as much as possible.
Of course, the plan is constantly being adjusted depending on the results of the races, but we are confident that we can count on further improvements and we will try to achieve them at every stage of the season.
The behavior of the improved version of the AMR22 has not changed much, and I wouldn’t say that this version is much more suitable for Sebastian than the previous one. Frankly, I would think that’s an exaggeration. Essentially this is the same car, only some features have been changed a bit.
Therefore, after each Grand Prix in a complex, we have to analyze all the factors that influenced the results of both drivers. We have no reason to believe that Sebastian started to perform better just because the car’s behavior has changed.
When we talk about Lance Stroll, he’s just out of luck. After the race in Baku we had to apologize to him. What happened there was not his fault. He tried to do something, although it was basically impossible to compensate for the drop in speed. Plus, we stopped receiving telemetry data from his machine, so we couldn’t even tell him what was going on.
In this regard, everything was extremely unsuccessful, and yesterday we had a long conversation with him. He has a normal, even mentality and as the Canadian Grand Prix is his home race, we have to give him all the support. And I will be very happy if he makes it to the final of qualifying today.
