Mostly cloudy. To rain. Air +11C, rail +16C
On Friday the riders worked on a dry track, but immediately after the second practice it started to rain, which continued intermittently until the morning. He ran at the start of the third session, in which the riders started on wet tires.
It was especially unfortunate for the spectators, who on Friday almost completely filled the stands, and on Saturday morning they wrapped themselves in sweaters and raincoats – the air temperature barely rose above ten degrees.
There were some incidents on the slippery track, although the riders were in no rush and gradually gained speed. Okon went off the track in the first corner, Vettel in the second, Magnussen and Gasly in the fourth, Sainz, Tsunoda and Albon in the ninth.
Verstappen made several mistakes on wet tires and returned to the pits without finishing the lap, but left on intermediate tires at the end of the session. Leclerc didn’t show the time – after a double powerplant change in the race, he starts last and on Sunday it should be dry.
Twenty minutes before the end of the session, Vettel, Alonso and Sainz switched to intermediate tires – and Fernando led the protocol, and then Vettel was faster.
Six minutes before the end of the session, Magnussen flew into the safety zone of the first corner, but returned to the track on his own and reached the pits. Then, in the second corner, he turned around and drove onto the Verstappen circuit without affecting the car.
Fernando Alonso took the lead with a lap time of 1:33.836. The forecast promises that the rain will stop, but with such cool weather, the tarmac for qualifying is unlikely to dry out.
