Frederic Vasseur believes that thanks to a series of updates prepared by Ferrari for the Spanish leg of the championship, the team has managed to make significant progress in working with the SF-23 car, and the results of the Grand Prix of Canada have confirmed this.
“The aim of the new products presented in Barcelona was to make the car more stable and easier and more comfortable to drive,” the AS newspaper quoted the head of the Scuderia as saying. – The Spanish weekend was a bit chaotic, but we still managed to move forward and in Canada we took the next step forward, because we already have a better understanding of the SF-23’s characteristics.
These are all very small improvements made up of several factors. Sometimes the right approach to using new products is more important than the new products themselves. But first of all we have to work with the car on different tracks and with all the rubber compounds. We will continue to modernize them and bring more updates to Austria, but I am not a fan of introducing them in large complexes.
At the same time, I try to protect my riders and understand them well when they get out of the car after a bad performance: if you ask them about tactics, they will always say they are unhappy. I’m sure that Max Verstappen is not always happy with everything, he may not be satisfied with the settings or tactics either, because in our sport you always want to achieve more.
I am happy when Carlos and Charles come by and explain exactly what needs to be improved, also in their work. They are always the first to take responsibility.
It would be wrong of me to say that we are making progress because I have become the team leader. I am gradually progressing in studying our weaknesses, in understanding what needs to be improved.
Looking from the outside, it might seem that we can be quite flexible if a particular problem needs to be solved quickly. But the reality of the company is that if you have to slightly correct the course of the whole ship, it doesn’t take much flexibility. For example, if we want to invite a specialist to work, then we are talking about several years.
A few weeks ago I signed a high-profile professional who will join our team in 2025 to work on cars for 2025 and 2026. But if that doesn’t happen now, the effect of his invitation will take even longer.
