This weekend in the US state of Colorado, the traditional Pikes Peak mountaineering competition will be held for the 101st time, which has long enjoyed almost cult status.
We talked about Radford, co-owned by Jenson Button, taking part, but their Radford Pikes Peak Edition Type 62-2 car starts in a special Exhibition Class (Exhibition Class) and doesn’t seem to claim any records.
But famous French racer Roman Dumas usually comes to Pikes Peak for records. In 2018, in the absolute Unlimited category, he achieved an achievement that he still has: he covered a distance of 19.99 km with 156 turns in an experimental Volkswagen ID R electric car in 7 minutes. 57,148 seconds.
This year he enters the competition and drives another bizarre vehicle: the Ford Performance SuperVan 4.
This is an all-wheel drive electric minibus, specially created by an American company for this kind of bright action. It has highly efficient batteries, powerful electric motors, a full carbon body, an FIA-certified roll cage and is packed with technological highlights.
If we talk about the power of this Ford, the estimates in different sources vary – from 1400 to 2000 horsepower. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.
In the Pikes Peak Open class, Dumas has already set an unofficial record in his amazing minivan – 8 minutes. 47,682 seconds.
It is worth recalling that the 45-year-old Frenchman is a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and he still competes in endurance races, but now for the American privateer team Glickenhaus Racing, and this year his team finished 6th in absolute terms.
In general, we are waiting for the next news from Colorado …
